JAKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday announced his first grandchild has been named Almira Tunggadewi Yudhoyono.
Almira means a noble girl and Tunggadewi was a queen of Java's Majapahit kingdom, while Yudhoyono is the family name, the President explained.
Yudhoyono, speaking to reporters when visiting his granddaughter at Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta, said the name had been discussed intensively for the last few days.
Almira was a special gift for the President and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono on Independence Day. She was born at 6:21 a.m. on Sunday by Caesarean section.
The baby girl is the first child of Yudhoyono's eldest son Agus Harimurti and daughter-in-law Annisa Larasati Pohan.
The grandfather and grandmother accompanied Annisa during the delivery before leaving for the State Palace to lead an Independence Day ceremony.
Yudhoyono arrived at the hospital at around 10:45 a.m. on Monday accompanied his wife Ani, Agus and Annisa's father Aulia Tantowi Pohan, as well as several Cabinet ministers.
About two hours later Vice President Jusuf Kalla and wife Mufidah Kalla also arrived to pay a visit to Yudhoyono's first grandchild. --JP
