JAKARTA: Twenty-four police officers and a golden retriever received medals for bravery and distinguished dedication to tackling crime this year from Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Adang Firman on Monday.
"I hope these medals encourage more officers to reach their potential," Firman said.
Among those who received the bravery medals were nine Jakarta Police detectives who unveiled the case of suspected serial killer Very Idham Heryansyah, known as Ryan, who is now on trial at Depok District Court.
Medals also went to a team of 10 North Jakarta Police officers for their roles in tackling an abduction case, where a businessman's son went missing.
A golden retriever, Buddy, from the police animal unit was also awarded a bravery medal for its role in helping officers reveal a murder case in Menteng, Central Jakarta, in August.
Along with Buddy, five police animal trainers were also given medals for their success. -- JP
