JAKARTA: ASEAN ministers of agriculture and forestry threw support to the candidacy of Indonesian scientist Indroyono Soesilo to run for top post at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
AKARTA: ASEAN ministers of agriculture and forestry threw support to the candidacy of Indonesian scientist Indroyono Soesilo to run for top post at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The support was announced during the 32th ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which ended Sunday.
“The meeting noted and supported the candidacy of the FAO director general from Indonesia and will convey to the Foreign Ministry for consideration,” the conclusion of the meeting made available to The Jakarta Post said.
The election to replace current FAO director general Jacques Diouf will be held in June 2011.
Indroyono is currently deputy senior minister to Coordinating Public Welfare Minister Agung Laksono. The meeting also agreed the 33rd Meeting of AMAF would be held in 2011 in Indonesia. — JP
