ADUNG: Rescuers found the body of Pierre Wilson on Sunday morning, after the 30-year-old Haitian citizen went missing while a swimming on Petitenget Beach on Saturday afternoon.

“Apparently the victim was dragged out to sea by the powerful current when he was swimming at Petitenget Beach, North Kuta,” Denpasar Search and Rescue officer Made Widana said.

Officers and local lifeguards searched for Wilson throughout the night Saturday, combing the waters where Wilson was last seen swimming.

On Sunday morning, a search party discovered Wilson’s body floating around 25 meters from the accident site.

“It’s quite surprising that the body was found near the accident site. We expected that strong currents would carry the body far from the site,” Widana added.

The body was sent to Sanglah Central Hospital’s morgue in Denpasar.

According to lifeguard reports, there were 191 distressed swimmers and nine drowning deaths in Badung’s waters between January and October. The regency’s shoreline spans 75 kilometers and hosts some of Bali’s most fantastic beaches, including Nusa Dua, Kuta and Canggu. — JP
