AKARTA: The city administration pledges to free Jl. Rasuna Said, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, from flooding by early next year.
City Public Works Agency official Tarjuki said Thursday the repair work was underway along Jl. Rasuna Said, and would be completed by late December. Tarjuki added that repairs were currently being done on nine flood-prone spots along the 3.5-kilometer-long road.
“The work will likely be completed in December, and next year [the road] will be free from floods,” he said.
Workers are now focusing on areas in front of the Malaysian and Turkish Embassies, as well as the Setiabudi commercial complex.
Workers have also finished dredging and widening two sewers under the street.
The city has noted 106 flood-prone areas across the city. The administration expects to work on 56 flood-prone areas next year, leaving the remainder to be completed in 2012. — JP
