Young actor Ricky Harun caught the limelight after starring in comedy film Kawin Kontrak [Contractual Marriage]. For some, however, his latest horror flick, Suster Keramas 2 [Shampooing Nurse 2], where the 24-year-old plays opposite Japanese porn star Sola Aoi, may be hard to forget.

Ricky, the son of model and actress Donna Harun, meanwhile, says he finds happiness in his other job as a DJ.

“In my leisure time, I DJ, play soccer, play games and go cycling. I don’t bother to going on vacation to other cities or flying abroad if I only have three days or a week to spare because the time will go too quickly.

I go cycling on my fixie bike on Car-Free Day on Jl. Sudirman and on Jl. M.H. Thamrin, or to Ancol in North Jakarta or Taman Mini Indonesia Indah park in East Jakarta. It took me some months to assemble the bike because I bought parts on the Internet to get the best deal. A ready-built fixie would have been too expensive.

When I was a kid, I often played on the railroad and in muddy pools in Bandung. I was just a kampong kid, unlike many children in Jakarta whose playgrounds are malls and whose gadgets are blackberry handhelds.

Actually, I want to go backpacking in Europe, but I am still too busy with work. I can bear mosquitoes in cheap hostels during my backpacking adventure, but this dream adventure must wait.

When I was in high school, I often went out to nightclubs. Things are different these days. I am tired after work so I just want to stay home or do my hobbies.

Nowadays I only go to nightclubs to DJ. I want to do acting and DJing. I DJ in the evening and then go to shooting locations in the morning.

Being a DJ is something I really enjoy. DJs need skills and to be sharp, like when deciding on a certain tempo. This stuff, which I have been doing for two years, is challenging for me. I am also an entertainer because people who are familiar with me come to shows to see me perform.

My DJ work all started when I accompanied my step father, Romy Soekarno, while he had performances. At first I just watched him play, but as time went by I became more and more interested.

My relative is a DJ too, so we formed a club and have focused on holding tours to some local cities, including Bandung in West Java, Makassar in South Sulawesi, Surabaya in East Java, Medan in North Sumatra and Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara, and Yogyakarta.

Previously, DJing was just a hobby, but now I more serious about honing my DJ skills. My dream is to go international. Actually, I have received several invitations to play in Malaysia and Singapore but I have turned them down because I am not ready yet. I still have to learn to handle my nervous feelings on stage.

I have been DJing for two years now, and have a network of friends at nightlife spots. So far, my mother trusts me and has given me freedom so long as I can draw a line when drinking and staying away from drugs.

I believe we should fear nothing if we are on the right path.”
