miley and talkative are the two words that best describe emcee Indy Barends. Along with fellow emcee Indra Bekti, Indy is now getting ready to host a TV quiz show – Super Deal 2 Milyar (Super Deal 2 billion).

“Many women may spend their free time at a beauty salon to get treatment such as a massage, but my favorite way to spend leisure time is staying at home with my children and husband.

My working time is very unpredictable, so when I have free time, I don’t think about myself but my children – Rafael Benaya Sarmanella, 8, and Manuel Tobias Sarmanella, 2.

Playing and have quality time with them is a delight for me. It also helps me pay off my guilty feeling for not being with them when I have to work. When I am at home, I will only wear shorts or old jeans and a T-shirt to have fun with them.

If we only have a short time, we usually do creative activities together like creating something based on Rafael’s book.

I will make snacks or simple food, such as spaghetti carbonara and macaroni. The two are Rafael’s favorite food. Sometimes we will perform small cooking experiments using any existing ingredients in our kitchen. I don’t really care about the results because the most important thing for me is our family’s togetherness.

I personally enjoy listening to the music very much. I love all kinds of genres. To me, it’s not fun to spend a single day without music at all. I always bring a device such as an iPod to be able to enjoy music wherever I want, including in my bathroom. I just cannot really enjoy being in a quiet or empty moment.

I also like traveling. After getting married, I started traveling with my family. We like exploring natural places such as beaches. Recently, we spent a week on Lembongan Island in Bali.

We do many fun outdoor activities such as snorkeling and cycling, exposing ourselves under the sun and making our skin darker. Something seems to be missing if we go back to Jakarta without darker skin. Sometimes I will have to be ready for my emceeing job with sunburn, but it’s a part of the joy.

My husband and I have agreed to arrange a weekend getaway when we don’t have a long holiday. The shortest destination is Anyer in Banten. I really hope the local administration can solve the notorious traffic congestion on the toll road heading to that tourist area. I am not really into politics, but I regret their way of handling traffic.

Staying at home or going to a beach is more appealing to us than spending our time in shopping malls. Sometimes I go to malls with my children, but we should have a very good reason to go there.

Rafael, for example, refuses to join me if I only go to buy something in the supermarket in a mall. He is excited to join us if we are going to try a new restaurant or visit a bookstore.

My son likes reptiles very much. He recently asked our permission to have a reptile pet as a present for passing a grade, but we have not allowed him to do so. I think he still needs to learn about responsibility first because a pet is a living creature.

When I was a little girl, I was a very active kid. My mother said I was a kid who easily got bored with my activities and barely finished them. I took ballet and Balinese traditional dance pendet, but never made it onto the stage because I got bored and quit.”
