ocals in Cisauk, South Tangerang, discovered on Monday the body of a young woman in a drain, thought to be that of a missing Bina Nusantara (Binus) University student.

Cisauk Police chief Adj. Comr. Kemijo said on Monday that the description of the body, which was discovered on Sunday afternoon, matched that of Livia Pavita Soelistio, a 21-year-old Binus Univesity student who went missing on Aug. 16.

“The body was found wearing a white shirt, black skirt, with shoulder-length hair with a Chinese goddess necklace. This description matches with that of Livia,” Kemijo said, adding that the body could have been in the drain for the past four days.

Kemijo, however, declined to confirm that the body was indeed that of the missing Binus student. “We
are waiting for the autopsy result,” he said.

Later on Monday, the body was taken to the Tangerang Hospital for an autopsy. Livia is the only daughter of Yusni Chandra.

Livia went missing after she left her home to go to her campus at around 2 p.m. on Aug. 16. Her family had reported the case to the Kebon Jeruk Police.

Separately, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar said that a DNA test would likely be conducted to identify the body.

“The body is badly decomposed and it has been very difficult to visually identify it,” Baharudin said.

Baharudin said that the female victim, if it was Livia, was likely murdered between Aug. 16 and Aug. 17, citing as evidence that the connection to her cellphone was cut on Aug. 17.

Baharudin also said that police in Cisauk had been in contact with the Kebon Jeruk Police to report the discovery of the body.

Meanwhile, the head of the Jakarta Police Violent Crimes Unit Adj. Sr. Comr. Helmy Santika, said that the parents of Livia were convinced that the body was that of their missing daughter.

“They have seen the body. They recognized the clothes worn by the victim, including her jewelry. They are convinced that the body is that of Livia,” Helmy said as quoted by kompas.com.

Helmy said that police would issue an official statement about the identity of the victim only after the DNA test was completed.
