AKARTA: Raja Mohammad Syazni bin Raja Mohammad Rashid, who is currently dating the singer Syahrini, says he only said to the Indonesian media that he was Malaysian, and not that he was the grandson of a sultan in Selangor, Malaysia, as many media reports alleged.

Raja, popularly known as Bubu, said the rumors began when the couple attracted media attention when they attended the wedding of Syahrini’s sibling earlier this month.

“A few days afterward, the Indonesian media began reporting wild rumors about us, including referring to me as a ‘rented lover’ ... aside from accusing me of being of Batak descent and coming from Bogor. They spread various stories, including private stories that might damage my reputation,” he said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com, which said it quoted Malaysian Metro.
