President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono installed Chatib Basri as the new Finance Minister at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Chatib replaces Agus Martowardojo, following the appointment of Agus as the governor of Bank Indonesia.
The new Finance Minister was sworn in under Presidential Decree No.60/2013 signed on May 20, 2013.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice President Boediono, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, ministers of United Indonesia Cabinet II, Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Adm. Agus Suhartono, National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo and other high-ranking officials.
As reported earlier, the President believed that Chatib was well qualified for the position, because he was 'able to make investment in Indonesia grow significantly,' during his time as head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).
Chatib was head of BKPM from June 2012. Before serving at the BKPM, Chatib was the deputy chairman of National Commission on Economics (KEN). (nai)
