The police have extended the detention of self-proclaimed cleric Guntur Bumi, who has been detained for alleged violations of fraud.
'We extend his arrest for the next 40 days,' city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said over the weekend.
He added that the police would continue to extend Bumi's detention until the police complete their investigation.
He said the police were looking for additional evidence by questioning Guntur and other witnesses, including his wife Puput Melati, who is a former child star.
Rikwanto added that the police would continue their investigation into the case, despite efforts by the suspect and his accusers to reach an out-of-court settlement.
Bumi was arrested after his complainants, Abdul Aziz and Irfani, filed a police report accusing Bumi of fraud during the time they sought alternative treatment at the suspect's clinic in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta.
The two were required to pay Rp 91 million (US$7,793) for the treatment, but the treatment failed to cure their disease.
Another alleged victim, a female, reported the suspect to the police on charges of sexual harassment.
She said she was sexually assaulted and raped while undergoing treatment at the clinic.
