anpower Minister Hanif Dakhiri ordered his adjutant to break down a fiberglass door that blocked entrance into a boarding house suspected of housing dozens of migrant workers from various regions across the country.
The break-in became necessary following the slow response from the boarding house caretakers when the minister asked them to open the gate.
'I am the manpower minister. Please open this gate or else I will close this facility,' Hanif, a former politician with the National Awakening Party (PKB), said on Wednesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Once inside the boarding house, Hanif met with 43 candidate migrant workers who had been promised work in countries such as Singapore and Malaysia.
They had been living in standards below those stipulated by the Manpower Ministry, for example, sharing only one toilet in the facility, which is owned by PT Elkari Makmur Sentosa.(+++)
