oreign Minister Retno Marsudi said on Wednesday morning that she did not know whether Australia would recall its ambassador to Indonesia, but expressed her hope that Indonesia'€™s ties with its neighbor would remain strong after the execution of two Australian drug trafficking inmates.

'€œThe recalling of an ambassador is every country'€™s right, in this case Australia,'€ Retno told reporters on the sidelines of the National Development Planning Conference meeting in Central Jakarta.

'€œFor Indonesia, Australia remains an important country and for Australia, Indonesia is also a very important partner.'€

Foreign media reported that Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott had recalled the Australian ambassador to Indonesia after President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo rejected the clemency pleas of two Australian death row inmates, Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.

"We received such information through media, but the Foreign Ministry is yet to receive formal communication from the Australian Embassy of such an action," said Retno.

Sukumaran and Chan were among the eight death row inmates executed on Nusakambangan Island at dawn on Wednesday.

The Attorney General'€™s Office, however, postponed the execution of Filipina Mary Jane Veloso following intensive lobbying from Philippine President Benigno Aquino.

'€œWe need to highlight the principle of care in the execution'€™s procedure,'€ minister Retno said, when asked the reason behind the delay of Veloso'€™s execution.(+++)
