he Jakarta Police are set to commence the use of a radar speed gun on the Sedyatmo toll road, which connects Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.
Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto, the head of law enforcement at the Jakarta Police traffic unit, said that the police had been assessing the use of a speed gun, which measures the speed of moving vehicles, on the toll road since Saturday morning after assessing the impact of speeding on accident rates.
“Based on our assessment, accidents on toll roads are mostly caused by speeding,” Budiyanto said as quoted by wartakotalive.com on Saturday. He added that four-wheeled vehicles should drive between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour. “Those detected to be exceeding 80 kilometers per hour will be reprimanded or issued with a speeding ticket,” he said.
The Jakarta Police issue hundreds of thousands of traffic tickets every year, but none of them are for speeding, because of a lack of tools to measure speed.
