he House of Representatives is set to approve the tax amnesty bill at the final plenary meeting of the current sitting session next week, a deputy House speaker has said.
The working unit on the bill, which is made up of members of House Commission XI overseeing banking and finance, had reported progress on the bill to the consultative body, said House deputy speaker Agus Hermanto.
Next, the consultative body would decide whether the House could approve the bill next week, Agus said at the House complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
"The unit is reporting to the consultative body, as we must approve the bill during the plenary meeting next week, Monday or Tuesday, along with the fit-and-proper test results on the National Police chief candidate," said Agus.
The chairman of the working unit on the tax amnesty bill, Soepriyatno of the Gerindra Party faction, confirmed to thejakartapost.com that a meeting with Bamus had been held on Thursday morning.
The working unit finished drafting the bill, which contains 27 articles, on Monday. However, it revisited some articles, including on the subject, object and the extent of the tax amnesty, on Tuesday.
The House failed to meet its initial target of finishing deliberations on the amnesty bill by April 29. Finance Minister Bambang S. Brodjonegoro has said he expects the tax amnesty to be effectively implemented on July 1 and to generate Rp 165 trillion (US$12. 5 billion) in additional state revenue. (ags)
