DNA test result released on Friday confirmed that Indonesia's most wanted terrorist Santoso was one of the people killed by Operation Tinombala task force personnel earlier this week.

"The DNA test result is out already. Yes, [it is] Santoso," National Police chief Tito Karnavian said on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Tito said the body of the leader of the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) and one of his men, Muchtar, who died in the same shootout, would soon be buried. "We leave the burial issues to the Central Sulawesi Police and local authorities," he added.

The two militants were shot dead on Monday evening by members of Alpha 29, an Operation Tinombala task force unit, in Poso, Central Sulawesi. (liz)
