he West Jakarta tax office is the country's busiest in terms of dealing with the flagship government program to boost revenue, the tax amnesty.
As of Sunday, the West Jakarta tax office had recorded the highest number of declaration letters of any tax office in the country, with 602 letters.
"That was the highest number of all tax offices, followed by North Jakarta with 407 declaration letters and Central Jakarta with 266 declaration letters," Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said in Jakarta on Monday.
In Java outside Jakarta, the province registering the most enthusiastic response to the tax amnesty is East Java, where one tax office has received 307 letters and the other 201. West Java Tax Office I has recorded 297, letters while Central Java Tax Office I and the Banten tax office have each recorded 266 letters.
"The tax office in North Sumatra is the busiest in Sumatra, with 361 declaration letters, followed by Riau and Riau Islands tax office with 230 declaration letters," Sri Mulyani went on, adding that the tax office of South Sumatra and Bangka-Belitung had received 203 declaration letters.
However, the minister acknowledged that the total number of letters received remained below target. (evi)
