Car owners left behind their vehicles in buildings affected by floods in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon.

Soleh, a parking attendant at a Kemang building said on Sunday morning that three cars and 10 motorcycles were still in the building’s basement because they could not get out of the flooded Jl. Kemang Raya.

“[From the] rain at 5 p.m. yesterday, the water kept rising. There was one driver who was almost trapped [in the floodwater], luckily he was able to save himself,” Soleh said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Kemang is an area of cafes, bars and restaurants, that are usually packed every Saturday night.

Many visitors to the area on Saturday got their vehicles trapped and left them behind.

“I wanted to have dinner, my car could still pass the street but the water kept rising even though the rain had stopped. Later, the water reached the car’s doors and seeped inside, inundating it,” Hilla, a visitor, tribunnews.com quoted as saying.

On Saturday, several areas in South Jakarta were flooded during heavy rain that occurred for more than an hour on Saturday evening.

The flood level was reportedly between 30 to 90 centimeters.
