he head of Vice President Jusuf Kalla's advisory team, Sofjan Wanandi, expects revenue from the first phase of the tax amnesty, which will end at the end of this month, to reach Rp 80 trillion.
"This first period I expect to reach Rp 80 trillion by the end of the month, and it has all already gone well," Sofjan said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
However, he estimated the redemption of declared and repatriated assets, which will be counted as tax revenue, would only reach Rp 100 trillion by the end of the amnesty’s third phase in March next year, far below the target set by the government of Rp 165 trillion.
"By the last period, [I expect to reach] Rp 100 trillion. It's impossible to reach the target. [The target is] too high; we already said it in the beginning. At first, we thought it would only reach Rp 70 trillion," he said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, redemptions had reached Rp 54.2 trillion, from Rp 2.52 quadrillion declared and repatriated assets. Of the figure, repatriated assets amounted to Rp 128 trillion, while overseas declared assets amounted to Rp 667 trillion and domestic declared assets amounted to Rp 1.72 quadrillion. (evi)
