ne of Indonesia’s favorite female shuttlers, Lindaweni Fanetri, has decided to retire from professional badminton to switch her focus to education and business.
The world number 42 said her decision was final as she would hang up her racket in early 2017 after doing the sport for 15 years.
“I’ve talked with my family [about retirement] and they approved it. I felt like I’ve reached my highest limit [in the sport], so it is final,” said the 26-year-old, according to the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
After retiring, Lindaweni, who came from the Suryanaga badminton club of Surabaya in East Java, said she would focus on getting her Bachelor’s degree in accounting at Trisakti University in Jakarta.
Other than that, Lindaweni, who won silver medals in the 2015 World Championship and 2010 Asian Games, will also concentrate on running a business.
“I plan to handle my family business,” said Lindaweni, who got knocked out of the group stage of the 2016 Rio Olympics, adding that she nonetheless would not stop playing badminton as a recreational activity.
Lindaweni is the country’s second-best shuttler in women’s singles after world number 40 Fitriani.
