ith repairs of Cisomang Bridge estimated to take months, state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will operate additional Jakarta-Bandung services to cater to those traveling between the two cities.
KAI president director Edi Sukmoro said Wednesday that KAI had added four services since Sunday, bringing the daily number of Jakarta-Bandung services to 20.
People are shifting to trains as travel time by car along the Jakarta-Bandung toll road has increased to 6-7 hours instead of the normal 1.5-2 hours as traffic is diverted off the toll road to avoid the bridge.

"If the repairs take three months, we will continue our support until then," Edi said at Gambir Station in Jakarta on Wednesday, adding that until Tuesday night all trains had been at full capacity with 1,200 passengers per trip.
The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is still working on reinforcing the pillars of Cisomang Bridge. Ministry bridge director Hedy Rahadian has said the pillars were being reinforced with strong carbon fiber and the work was estimated to be finished in three months. (evi)
