akarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan is optimistic he will win the city election on Feb. 15. However, he wants his supporters to closely watch polling stations where more than 7 million Jakartans are set to cast their votes for the capital’s next governor.
Speaking at a major campaign event at Banteng Square, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, the former education and culture minister said his supporters must “guard” every polling station in their neighborhood until the electoral process was completed because any “possible victory” might be undermined by election fraud.
“We need you to guard the polling stations and the vote counting process as well. Don’t let the result of our hard work be stolen by anyone, and please make sure that Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno claim victory at every polling station,” said Anies, referring to his running mate.

In his speech, Anies also reminded his supporters and volunteers that voting day was their chance to express their dissatisfaction with the current administration.
He added that he was ready to provide quality education for marginalized citizens and save settlements from eviction.
“If we are elected as governor and deputy governor, we will not only build infrastructure but also develop human resources,” Anies said during Sunday’s event, which is considered the pinnacle of his and Sandi’s months-long campaign. (ebf)
