E

nglish golfer Danny Willet fired 16-under-par 200, securing him the top position on the leaderboard of the third day of the 2017 Maybank Championship. He holds a three-stroke lead ahead of his closest contender, David Lipsky of the United States, who managed to score 13-under-par 203.

Behind Lipsky was Alexander Levy of France who secured 12-under-par 204.

“It was really good. I played very well today, especially from tee to green. I had a lot of good chances for birdie and I’m really happy with how I’ve been playing in the last three days. It would be nice to be in the last group now and in contention in the last round,” Levy said.

While the top three positions were claimed by Western golfers, some Asian golfers, alongside their western colleagues, ended the day sharing the fourth position.

Thai golfer Panuphol Pittayarat and South Korean K.T. Kim shared the same 11-under-par 205. Friday’s leaders Bernd Wiesberger of Austria and Michael Lorenzo-Vera of France also fired the same score.

Senior Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri landed himself in ninth with 10-under-par 206.

The first cash prize of US$500,000 is still up for grabs in the $3 million-worth tournament. Sunday will be the final round of the tournament, which is held at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
