Vice president expects two rounds in Jakarta election

Vice President Jusuf Kalla expects Jakarta’s gubernatorial election to go on to a second round, predicting that none of the three candidate pairs will garner the 50 percent of votes needed to win outright. Kalla, a senior Golkar Party politician, delivered the statement after casting his own vote for the capital, which is among 101 regions holding  elections on Wednesday. “Everybody hopes for only one round [in the election], but there will likely be two rounds,” Kalla said on Wednesday at Polling Station No. 03 in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, as quoted by kompas.com. The vice president did not elaborate on his prediction, but expressed his hope that whichever candidate pair wins the public’s mandate to head Jakarta’s administration would lead the capital fairly for the next five years.
