ormer home minister Gamawan Fauzi denied on Thursday accusations stated in the corruption indictments of two former high-ranking ministry officials related to an e-ID card procurement project.
In the indictments, Gamawan was said to have received an amount of fees from his subordinates for disbursing budget funds in the procurement project and appointing its implementing parties. The minister denied the accusations.
“I never received anything. Never,” said Gamawan as quoted by kompas.com in the second hearing of the e-ID graft case at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday.

In the hearing, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors read out their indictments for two defendants in the case, the Home Ministry’s former director general for population and civil registration Irman and Sugiharto, a former managing director of population administrative information at the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration.
In the indictments, Gamawan was stated to have accepted Rp 50 million (US$ 3,748.13) and $4.5 million, which were allegedly delivered in stages.
Gamawan said he had noticed nothing unusual in the e-ID procurement project. He said he heard about alleged irregularities in the project only after the KPK named suspects in the case.
Prosecutors stated in the indictments that the actions of two defendants caused an estimated Rp 2.3 trillion (US$172.41 million) in state losses. Of a total Rp 5.9 trillion procurement budget, 49 percent or Rp 2.56 trillion was reportedly distributed to several parties including members of the House’s Commission II, which oversees home affairs, and the Legislative Body.
