T

he Operation Tinombala task force assigned to tackle terrorist networks in Poso, Central Sulawesi, received an additional 109 Mobile Brigade personnel from provincial police commands in areas across Indonesia.

Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig. Gen. Rudy Sufahriadi said the deployment of the Brimob personnel was to strengthen police units dispatched to handle security in Poso and to pursue remnants of the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) terror group led by Santoso, aka Abu Wardah, who was killed during a shoot-out with the Operation Tinombala task force last year.

Rudy said hundreds of Brimob members assigned to Poso from Jan. 3 to April 3 would be withdrawn and replaced with new personnel from other areas across Indonesia.

In total, 410 Brimob personnel have been withdrawn from Poso, comprising 210 personnel from the Kepala Dua headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok, 100 personnel from the North Sulawesi Police and 100 others from the South Sulawesi Police.

They will be replaced with 519 Brimob personnel from various areas across Indonesia. Of the total, 210 personnel are from the Brimob headquarters in Kelapa Dua, followed by 105 personnel from the Lampung Police, 104 Brimob members from the Maluku Police and 100 others from the Central Java Police.

Rudy said hundreds of the new Brimob personnel would work starting from April 4 to July 2. They would be deployed in four districts, namely North Poso Pesisir, Poso Pesisir, South Poso Pesisir and Napu.

“We hope with the new power, nine terrorism suspects on the police’s most wanted list and remain at large can be arrested,” he said. (ebf)
