he International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) kicked off on Wednesday the biannual World Ports Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, for which state-owned port operators PT Pelindo I, PT Pelindo II, PT Pelindo III and PT Pelindo IV served as the hosts. 

Pelindo II president director Elvyn G. Masassya said representatives from 50 countries were attending the 30th edition of the event.

“We can capture the dynamics of the port industry [through the event]. It is also a chance to collaborate, share experiences as well as conduct commercial cooperation,” he said on Wednesday.

A series of preliminary programs were held since Sunday prior to the conference's opening ceremony on Wednesday. The event will run until Friday.

Elvyn said the event venue in Bali, the country's most popular resort island, was also an added value for participants of the conference as they could also explore destinations in the region.

IAPH president Santiago Garcia Milla said he expected the conference, run under the theme "Enabling trade, Energizing the World", to open up discussion on various issues, including digitalization in the port industry, smart ports as well as information exchange on port operations. (hwa)
