akarta governor and deputy governor-elect Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno have denied rumors they plan to slash the number Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU) workers in the capital.

"Pak Anies and Pak Sandi reiterated [during their campaign] that they would not reduce the number of PPSU workers, let alone remove [the agency]," the incoming pair’s spokesman, Naufal Firman Yursak, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Naufal assured that PPSU workers, known for their brightly colored uniforms, had nothing to worry about.

Jakarta Spatial Planning Agency head Gamal Sinurat previously announced that Anies and Sandiaga planned to downsize the PPSU to make way for a new waste management program.

Naufal said that Gamal had misunderstood the program, which aims to encourage residents to manage their own waste at home.

PPSU workers would maintain their jobs of taking care of sanitation in public spaces, he said.

He added that Anies and Sandiaga would provide entrepreneurship training through their OK Oce program for PPSU workers with the aim of improving their welfare.
