reight trucks will be allowed to take toll roads starting next Monday, a week after the nation had observed Idul Fitri on June 25, a transportation official says, indicating that the government has reviewed its initial decision to allow the resumption of freight truck operations on Thursday.
“Trucks are allowed to resume their operations on Monday, July 3,” land transportation director general Pudji Hartanto of the Transportation Ministry announced as quoted by kontan.co.id.
Freight trucks have been restricted from entering toll roads and other major roads since June 21 to help maintain smooth traffic conditions for the Idul Fitri holiday season, over which millions traveled to their hometowns last week and were returning this week.

The restriction was extended upon the expectation that the holiday traffic will peak on Saturday and Sunday, with many holidaymakers preparing to return to work on Monday.
Earlier, deputy chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Carmelita Hartoto had advised freight truck operators to postpone operations until Monday to prevent worsening the traffic congestion on toll roads. (mrc/bbn)
