wenty F-16 jet fighters cut through the Singapore skyline to form the numeral “50” on Thursday, marking the golden jubilee celebration of diplomatic relations between Singapore and its neighbor Indonesia.
Visiting President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong were at the iconic Marina Bay Cruise Centre to witness the fly-past, jointly participated by the air forces of Singapore and Indonesia to conclude a merriment under the theme RISING50 — an amalgamation of “RI” for the Republic of Indonesia and “SING” for Singapore.
Singapore’s defense ministry amplified the attraction as a strong testament to the interoperability and mutual understanding between the two countries.
The fly-past may also illustrate the enduring cordial relations of the two countries’ leaders as they committed to leap into the future through increased economic cooperation, notably in the digital economy and tourism.
During the bilateral meeting of the two leaders at the Istana, Jokowi made a convincing pitch to Lee that investment in the digital economy was imperative because the challenges of the past 50 years would differ to the next 50 years.
“Digital economic cooperation is no longer an option, it is imperative. This will be a priority for Indonesia and Singapore,” said Jokowi.
“If we can combine the potential of investment, technology with talent as well as the youth market potential, then digital economic cooperation will make Indonesia, as well as Singapore even stronger,” he said during a joint press statement.
