Thai golfer Panuphol Pittarayat ended his title drought as he seized the 2017 Indonesia Open by scoring a seven-under par 65 in Sunday’s final match held at the Pondok Indah Golf Course in Jakarta.
He produced eight birdies and one bogey during the last day’s game. Panuphol managed to finish with a 23-under-par score of 265 during the four-day tournament.
“I am very grateful for this win even though I endured 24 holes since this morning. I also felt comfortable playing with my Thai counterparts,” Panuphol, who played with Namchok Tantipokhakul and Rattanon Wannasrichan in the final games, said.
Namchok secured third place with a 15-under-par 273, along with Jazz Janewattananond. Tirawat Kaewsiribandit, another Thai golfer, snatched second place with an 18-under-par 270.
Panuphol acknowledged that since the first day he was trying to maintain focus and not let himself be easily distracted.
“I repeatedly told myself that my only goal was to play well during the competition. I focused on how to play well rather than thinking of the prize,” he said in a statement sent to The Jakarta
Post on Sunday. Panuphol received a trophy and U$54,000 (Rp735 million) in prize money, out of a total $300,000.
