tate-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) expects an 11.03 percent increase in air passengers to 4.43 million during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holiday, president director Muhammad Awaluddin said Sunday.

Throughout 2017, several airports kicked off the operation of new terminals, such as at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung, West Java, and Depati Amir Airport in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung Islands.

Activities at the new terminals are set to jack up the number of passengers served by AP II through 13 airports under its management during the year-end holiday season.

“The preparation for Christmas and New Year transport has all been the same each year. However, we provide much better services this year than in the past,” Awaluddin said in a statement, as quoted by kontan.co.id.

During the year-end holiday season from Dec. 18 to Jan. 8, AP II plans to have 1,158 additional flights, comprising 1,134 domestic and 24 international flights.

The peak departure time is estimated to fall on Dec. 23, while the peak return time is projected to occur on Jan. 8.

The influx of passengers will be seen at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, driven by flights to domestic destinations, such as Medan, North Sumatra; Denpasar, Bali; Makassar, South Sulawesi and Yogyakarta, and international destinations, such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Bangkok, Thailand; Hong Kong and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

To ensure smooth transportation flows during the festive season, AP II has opened special desks to provide assistance to passengers at 13 airports. (fny/lnd)
