di Soemarmo International Airport and the VI Regional Operation (Daop) Yogyakarta of state-owned railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) are preparing extra seats in anticipation of an increase in passengers over Christmas and New Year.

Abdullah Usman, the general manager of state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura (AP) I at Adi Soemarmo Airport, said as of today, only one airline, namely Citilink, had proposed a permit to operate extra flights. However, he predicted that the number of airlines proposing extra flights this holiday season would continue to increase.

“Our responsibility is to provide parking lots. Currently, there are now parking lots for 11 aircraft. In total, there will be 14 parking lots,” he said on Friday.

Citilink sales representative Cahyo Katon said the airline would provide three additional schedules for the Adi Soemarmo (Surakarta)-Halim Perdanakusumah (Jakarta) flight route. They are 8:55 a.m., 12:45 p.m., and 5:45 p.m.

“On normal days, we have only four flights. But for Christmas and New Year holidays, there will be seven flights that will use Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats,” said Cahyo.

KAI Daop VI public relations manager Eko Budiyanto said the company had added six extra trains with a passenger capacity of more than 3,000 seats that would be ready to operate from Dec.21 to Jan.7.

Eko predicted that there would be a six percent increase in passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“We will also add 13 regular trains because during Christmas and New Year holidays, 13,000 extra seats are needed,” he said. (ami/ebf)
