hai cement manufacturer Siam Cement Group (SCG) has planned to focus on diversifying its products next year, said SCG country director for Indonesia Nantapong Chantrakul during an event in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He expressed optimism over the prospects of the company, which started operating in Indonesia in 1995, despite the presence of tough competition.
“We want to compete by [introducing] more products and services,” Chantrakul told reporters during a media gathering.
He said innovation and the use of technology in its products would help the company to become more competitive, without revealing details on the products in development.
SCG had supplied construction materials for several state-run infrastructure projects, he added, citing as an example materials provided to state-owned construction firm PT Wijaya Karya (Wika), as well as those for the construction of toll roads in South Sumatra and Jakabaring Stadium, a 2018 Asian Games venue in Palembang.
Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto recently pushed for SCG to invest US$600 million in a naphtha cracker production facility in Cilegon, Banten.
SCG investment coordinating manager Vikorn Phongsatorn said the company was negotiating with the ministry over incentives that the government might offer to the company to encourage them to invest.
SCG oversees three different businesses in Indonesia -- petrochemicals, raw materials for construction and packaging. (fny/bbn)
