fire broke out at a plastics factory in Kamal subdistrict in Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Friday at around 11:30 a.m.
The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency said at least 24 firetrucks were deployed to extinguish the fire, which had spread to a number of houses nearby.
“Five houses were also exposed to flames,” the agency’s operational section head Rompis Romli said as quoted by kompas.com. He added that they needed at least 1.5 hours to extinguish the fire.
“The fire has stopped, and now efforts are being made to [hose down] the area.”
No casualties were reported in the incident. A number of factory workers were on duty while the fire started to spread, but they managed to escape the site quickly.
The agency has yet to find the cause of the fire. (vny)
