A

traffic accident on a steep road popularly known as Tanjakan Emen, in Subang, West Java, has left 16 people injured after the Isuzu Elf minibus they were traveling in rolled around noon on Monday. The accident was the latest in a string of incidents reported on the road, many of which have resulted in fatalities.

“Seven people were seriously injured while nine others suffered light wounds,” West Java Police’s traffic division director Sr. Comr. Prahoro Tri Wahyono said on Monday.

He said the accident had occurred at the same location as an accident involving a tourist bus belonging to travel company Premium Passion on Feb.10, which resulted in the deaths of 27 people.

Prahoro said the police were still searching for the driver of the vehicle. “We will continue to investigate, including to identify the passengers,” said Prahoro, adding that all victims had been taken to Subang Hospital.

He said the police were investigating to discover the cause of the accident. The minibus was traveling at high speeds from the Mount Tangkuban Parahu area to Ciater, a tourist destination, via Tanjakan Emen. “It’s likely the driver lost control of his vehicle,” said Prahoro.

Elang Cakra Express Tour and Travel management officer Haris confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the company, which is based in Karang Ampel, Indramayu regency, West Java. The company has dispatched staff members to gather information on the accident. (ebf)
