emala Bhayangkari, a foundation established by the wives of National Police officers, is set to host a fun run to celebrate Kartini Day on April 22.
The event, named the Kartini Run, will include a 10-kilometer and 5-km race for women, as well as a 2-km race for participants with disabilities. First Lady Iriana Widodo is scheduled to open the fun run.
Organizer Reza Puspo said the foundation had received more than 7,000 registrants, 90 percent of whom are women.
“In its class, the Kartini Run is Indonesia’s biggest running event with the largest number of women participants. Some 4,500 people will participate in the 5-km run,” Reza, the founder of race management firm and Kartini Run organizer Mesa Race, told journalists on Thursday, adding that runners had been told to decorate their outfit with traditional attributes.
Around 100 participants with disabilities will take part in the 2-km race, starting from the National Monument (Monas) to Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, before heading back to Monas in Central Jakarta.
The 5-km route covers Monas-Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan-Jl. Medan Berdeka Barat-Jl. Majapahit-Monas.
Meanwhile, the 10-km route follows Monas-Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan-Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat-Jl. Majapahit-Jl. Gajah Mada-Monas.
National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, chairman of Kemala Bhayangkari, said the race would present quality medals that were produced by the same company that made medals for the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
