fter more than four months of competition, Maria Simorangkir has been crowned the winner of Indonesian Idol 2018, outshining her rival, Ahmad Abdul, thanks to the support of her fans, kompas.com reported.
Maria, 16, is the youngest winner of the competition, which began in 2004 on TV station RCTI.
Maria’s finest performance was her belting rendition of Destiny’s Child’s “Stand Up for Love”. She also wowed the judges when she teamed up with singer Sandhy Sondoro to sing a medley of Sandhy’s “Tak Pernah Padam” (Never Extinguished) and Indah Dewi Pertiwi’s “Gejolak Cinta” (Burning Love).
The winner and the runner up each received cash and a car. In addition, Maria was also rewarded a record contract with Universal Music Indonesia.
