uslims in Magelang, Central Java, conducted Idul Adha prayers in front of the Magelang Islamic Hospital on Tuesday, one day before the official holiday on Wednesday.
The prayers were led by Magelang Islamic Prosperity Foundation head Solichin, who said that the worshippers were following a hadith that stated Idul Adha prayers could be performed after wukuf (peak of the pilgrimage) at Arafah field in Mecca.
"The pilgrims performing the fifth pillar of Islam in the Holy Land conducted wukuf at Arafah field yesterday," Solichin said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.
He added, however, that the sacrificing of the animals would still be carried out on Wednesday, since it required the presence of many people who would only be available on the public holiday.
"The sacrificing of animals can also be done on the three days after Idul Adha," he said.
He said he would sacrifice three cows and four goats on Wednesday and would hand out the meat to residents near Magelang Islamic Hospital.
In his sermon, Solichin reminded the congregation about the sanctity of marriage and urged husbands to treat their wives kindly. (kmt/ahw)
