T

he Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is willing to discuss candidates to replace outgoing Jakarta deputy governor Sandiaga Uno who is running for vice president in the 2019 election.

The PKS Jakarta chapter’s sharia council head, Abdurrahman Suhaimi, said on Tuesday that the PKS had asked its coalition partner, the Gerindra Party, to not put forward another candidate for the sake of solidity

“This will show that the PKS and Gerindra are reading from the same hymn book,” Suhaimi said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Previously, the Gerindra Jakarta chapter’s head, M. Taufik, stated that the party had named him as the candidate to replace Sandiaga.

Suhaimi said the PKS had received the presidential decree on the resignation of Sandiaga as Jakarta deputy governor. The letter had been submitted to the party's executive board (DPP).

Earlier, the Home Ministry’s director general of regional autonomy, Sumarsono, said the decree had been handed to Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan

"It has been issued, still sealed, but it has already been given to Jakarta’s governor," Sumarsono told kompas.com on Tuesday.

The council can now proceed with deliberations on Sandiaga's replacement as deputy governor after Anies submitted the decree to Speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi. (stu)
