he Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency has planned to allocate Rp 48 billion (US$3.15 million) from the city's 2019 budget to renovate Bahari Museum, which suffered a fire earlier this year.
"The renovation project will commence next year," said the agency's acting head Asiantoro on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Asiantoro said that the city was currently designing the renovation concept. The project will be focused on the building's structure and safety.
The city also planned to replicate some museum collections that were destroyed in the incident using a donation budget from a ministerial institution.
"We will request [a donation] from the Education and Culture Ministry. We should replicate most of the burned collections because they're irreplaceable," he added.
The fire occurred on Jan. 16 and destroyed some parts of the museum buildings, mostly at buildings A and C.
The incident caused severe damage to several rooms, namely International Seas Legend, Archipelagic Seas Legend, traditional ships miniature, navigation tools and the Java Sea war. (vla)
