very garbage truck at the Bantar Gebang landfill in Bekasi, West Java must now be washed on site, following the inauguration of a truck washing center and a mosque by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Tuesday.

"Every garbage truck that empties its contents would have to get washed before going back to Jakarta in order to avoid any environmental contamination that is caused by the waste itself or the wastewater that remains in the truck," Asep Kuswanto, the Jakarta Sanitation Agency's Bantar Gebang management head, said of the 489-square-meter car wash.

Furthermore, a 454-square-meter mosque has been built as a place for trash scavengers and nearby residents to pray, according to Environmental Agency head Isnawa Adji.

"We hope that with the mosque, scavengers, office employees or people who reside near the Bantar Gebang landfill could pray safely and comfortably," Isnawa said.

The two facilities were funded by fines paid by PT Alfindo Mercu Estates for exceeding floor area ratio (KLB) limits.
