T

he Prosperous Justice (PKS) and Gerindra Party, two political parties backing Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, are set to propose the names of two deputy governor candidates on Feb, 10.

The two parties had previously held confirmation hearings and a focus group discussion (FGD) with three deputy governor nominees namely Akhmad Syaikhu, Agung Yulianto and Ahmad Suhaimi – all PKS politicians.

PKS Jakarta head Sakhir Purnomo said the confirmation hearing team would summarize results of the meetings and submit recommendations to the PKS and Gerindra.

"The results will be used in proposing two selected candidates out of the three nominees to the two parties," Sakhir said in a press statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Monday.

"Later, [the two names] will be proposed to Governor Anies to be forwarded to the City Council for a plenary meeting," he added.

The deputy governor position has been vacant since August 2018, when Sandiaga Uno resigned to run in the 2019 presidential election as Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto’s running mate.

The longtime allies had reached an agreement that there should be a confirmation hearing process prior to proposing deputy governor candidates.

The confirmation hearing involved the three candidates and the confirmation hearing team meeting was held on Jan. 27.

The FGD, which was attended by the confirmation hearing team and public figures only --without the presence of the three candidates-- was held on Sunday.

Among public figures attending the discussion were public policy expert Amir Hamzah, urban planning expert Yayat Supriatna, academic Budi Wibowo, businessman Sugianto, Rakhmat from the Prosperous Local Traders Union, representative of non-governmental organizations Humanika M. Sidik and Indonesian Journalist Association (PWI) honorary council head Kamsul Hasan.
