T

wo victims of a fireworks explosion near Sultan Hotel in Central Jakarta, the venue of Sunday’s presidential debate, have been allowed to return home after receiving treatment at a hospital, according to Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono.

"They suffered no significant external injuries; only trauma from the noise," he said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

The two victims are identified as Karsikin Edy Anwar and Asma Dahlia, who are supporters of Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his running mate Ma'ruf Amin.

They were reportedly attending a screening of the live debate between Jokowi and his challenger Prabowo Subianto at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex when the explosion went off.

Police have said that the explosion was caused by fireworks, not a bomb.

"The noise was a firecracker. However, we are still conducting further investigations," Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono told reporters on Sunday.

The scene has been cordoned off with a police line, prohibiting people from entering, and investigators continue to examine CCTV footage of the incident, he added. (fac)
