The National Consumer Protection Agency received 154 complaints in the first quarter, most originating from the housing sector.
ousing remains the most complained about business sector as many developers are unable to complete the construction of properties on time, in addition to the uncertainty surrounding the freehold status of apartments, the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) has found.
The BPKN received 154 complaints in the first quarter, most originating from the housing sector.
BPKN communications and education coordinator Arief Safari said the agency had received 129 complaints on the housing sector in the first quarter, followed by six complaints on online peer-to-peer (P2P) lending, three on banking and the remainder on various sectors, including travel and e-commerce.
He added this reflected the trend of previous years. The Jakarta Post has reported that the agency recorded 45 complaints on housing issues out of the 80 complaints it received between September 2017 and March 2018.
"If concerned entities, including developers and banks, don't work collectively, then these issues will not be solved. We are still seeing the same old problems from the housing sector now," BPKN advocacy commission coordinator Rizal E. Halim told a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday.
Arief said around 70 complaints had come from house owners, while the remainder were filed by apartments owners and tenants.
He added that the complaints were on issues such as the legal uncertainty of freehold titles, delayed construction of houses and apartments and developers' failure to hand over deeds of sales and provide refunds for properties that did not complete construction.
