Matraman Station to be finished this year

he construction of Matraman railway station in East Jakarta will be completed this year, the head of the Jakarta-Banten Technical Unit of the Transportation Ministry’s Railway Directorate General Jumardi said.
“We are actually aiming to complete the construction of Matraman Station by the end of this year so it can start operating this year too. The sooner the better,” he said recently as quoted by kompas.com.
The ministry wants Matraman Station to start operating soon because it is located between two of the busiest transit stations: Jatinegara and Manggarai. The station is expected to reduce the crowds at the two transit stations.
“Passengers who work near the [Matraman] station can disembark there instead of at Manggarai Station,” he said.
Jumardi went on to say that a double-double track (DDT) railway connecting Jatinegara and Manggarai stations was expected to begin operating in 2021.
A 9.5-kilometer DDT connecting Jatinegara with Cakung just began operating on Friday.(vla)
