Audrey Pratiwi, 25, arrived in Jakarta on Sunday from Amsterdam, where she is studying for a master’s degree.
She is planning to go to the polls with her family on Wednesday. While not revealing her preference, Audrey said she and her family would make it a joyful experience.
Her family, she said, had prepared straws, with the names of the presidential candidate pairs — Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno — written on them.
Each family member will draw a straw and vote for the names written on it.
“Both candidates are good people and offer good programs. Both of them also have flaws. So why don’t we just have fun with it [the election]?” Audrey told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Social media and chat groups were on fire five years ago when Jokowi faced Prabowo for the first time in a presidential election.
Blind support for each candidate led to many people unfriending each other on Facebook after bickering over their preferred candidates, while others chose to leave messaging service chat groups to avoid spats with family and friends.
