hile the General Elections Commission (KPU) is counting the C1 vote tally forms from polling stations across the country, the public and political parties have launched initiatives to participate in monitoring the process.

Among the established websites available for the public to participate in the process was kawalpemilu.org, onto which citizens can upload photos of actual C1 forms that record the final vote count of each polling station, usually from the ones near their residences.

The website was established by a community of volunteers who work with an election watchdog, the Network for Democracy and Electoral Integrity (Netgrit).

Netgrit co-founder Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah said the website provided a platform to involve citizens and help minimize election fraud. As of Saturday evening, the website recorded that the Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin ticket had garnered 6,599,137 votes while contenders Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno had gained 6,455,162. The results, however, are not final yet.

“We are working to monitor the election process while the KPU is processing the real count. In the end, we hope the public will have no doubt [over the KPU’s manual counting],” Ferry said on Saturday.

He emphasized that the public should not be confused by kawalpemilu.org’s data collection, as well as the quick counts and real counts provided by independent pollsters.

“It means the public is working closely to watch the process, so the KPU should maintain its high integrity,” James said.
