The election bodies can now focus on the next stages of the elections.
undreds of polling stations across the country wrapped up their revotes by Saturday, or 10 days after the April 17 election day — the deadline stipulated by the 2017 General Elections Law.
General Elections Commission chairman Arief Budiman said he hoped the revotes meant there would be fewer disputes in the upcoming stages of the election process.
“Holding revotes is one way to resolve issues,” Arief said on Saturday as quoted by Antara. “Once the revotes have been completed, I hope that no more issues arise and there is no more debate in the next stages [of vote counting and tabulation].”
Revotes were held at 592 polling stations between Thursday and Saturday, with around 500 of the polling stations holding the revotes on Saturday.
Arief said the revotes were held for various reasons, but mostly because polling station committee members had allowed unregistered voters to cast their ballots at the stations.
Previously, the commission had received revote or voting extension requests from over 2,700 polling stations in 31 provinces, comprising around 0.3 percent of the total 813,350 polling stations that were open on election day.
Most of the provinces had finished conducting the revotes last week, while some, like West Sumatra and Jakarta, only held the revotes over the past few days.
