oreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi has invited her Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Maliki to a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting in New York on the issue of illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine.
Indonesia, as the UNSC president for the month of May, will host on Thursday an Arria Formula meeting, which will focus on calls to hold Israel accountable for its encroachment on Palestinian territories.
The Arria Formula is an informal meeting format that allows UNSC member states to advance their views more freely, interactively and openly by inviting views from non-council members, academia and civil society groups — in contrast to regular meetings and consultations that allow only delegations and officials of the member states as well as UN officials to participate. Thursday’s meeting will be hosted with South Africa and Kuwait as cochairs.
Retno confirmed the attendance of al-Maliki at the event following a bilateral meeting with him at the office of the Indonesian Mission to the UN in New York on Wednesday.
